GENTLE LOVERS

SCRIPT SAMPLE

© 2004 by Gino Caputi & Guy J. Jackson

FADE IN:

EXT. PARK - DAY

WILL MARKESBY, a well-groomed young milksop, sits on a bench, reading a NEWSLETTER.

MR. FERN (V.O.)
Greetings, Club Members and a warm and Happy New Year from the publishing house of Fern and Hornstein!

INT. MR. FERN'S STUDY - DAY

MR. FERN types away on his old Smith & Corona.

MR. FERN (V.O.)
Where to begin? Once again, the holidays were both exhilarating and exhausting, highlighted by many merry episodes.

INT. MR. FERN'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Mr. Fern looks at his haggard reflection in his bathroom mirror.

CUT TO:

Mr. Fern gulps down a stiff drink.

CUT TO:

Mr. Fern crumples up drafts of the newsletter.

CUT TO:

Mr. Fern waltzes with himself.

MR. FERN (V.O.)
Unfortunately, this flurry of activity thwarted my good intentions, resulting in a shameful delinquency in delivering the December newsletter.

INT. MR. FERN'S STUDY - NIGHT

Mr. Fern takes a sip of coffee, stops and thinks.

MR. FERN (V.O.)
But the New Year brings fresh resolve, and so we begin January with vigor, clarity of thought, and all eyes pointed toward a successful publishing year.

EXT. PARK - DAY

Will continues reading, intrigued.

INT. DANCE HALL - NIGHT

GUESTS swirl around an upper-crust party.

MR. FERN (V.O.)
Item! For those of you who missed the Sixteenth Annual Holiday Cotillion, it was a stunning affair, raising almost seventeen thousand dollars for the Sea Cliff After School Reading Circle. This star-studded evening was greatly illumined by the witticisms of Grace Sullivan, the elaborate toasts of Major Douglas Powers, and the madcap antics of Sheldon Lebowitz and Company. Other colorful participants included Don and Teri Segal, Olivia Bortz, Samuel Edgar Childs, Tiffany Singh, Parker Keats, Ronald Galbreith, Debra and Judy Fagan, and of course our merry Master of Ceremonies, Clark Pythagoros Hanover!

INT. KITCHEN - DAY

Mr. Fern talks it up with MAXIE GOODWIN and BETHANY HEARST.

MR. FERN (V.O.)
In the kitchen, over a platter of delectable prawn butter bouquets, I engaged in a glittering conversation with Bethany Hearst and the ever-delightful Maxie Goodwin. The topic quickly turned to the significant absence of Emily Lofton and Will Markesby, who braved the holiday crowds and enjoyed a Christmas spree in Nice, Milan and Geneva.

EXT. PARK - DAY

Visibly angered, Will reads on.
